Nålbinding course for beginners at Weald & Downland Museum

  • Weald & Downland Open Air Museum Town Lane, Singleton, Chichester, West Sussex PO18 0EU United Kingdom (map)

NOT an April fools joke!

But luckily enough I will be running another workshop at the beautiful Weald & Downland Museum.

Most surviving European nålbinded clothing dates from the Viking and early medieval era, (9th- 12th century) and are concentrated in the Scandinavian countries. However one example does come from Viking York.

The course

Learn how to make sturdy and serviceable garments using the ancient technique of Nålebinding. Also known in English as “knotless netting,” “knotless knitting”, or “single needle knitting,” this technique is older than knitting and crochet. You will learn one basic stitch as an introduction. At the end of the day, you may have a lovely coaster or a little pouch/ mobile phone cover that you can keep for reference, or give as gifts.

Participant information

All equipment will be provided by the course teacher. This includes wool, needles and scissors.

Fee & Booking

£55 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. The Museum café will be open or you can bring a packed lunch. Tickets can be booked and purchased via the museums website
